FPFE hosts international seminar “Dividend and demographic diversity: a solution to boost the Cairo agenda and sustainable development”
Experts in demography, sexual and reproductive health and public policies from China, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Chile and Spain met in Madrid on July 8 to attend the international seminar “Dividend and demographic diversity: a solution to boost the Cairo agenda and sustainable development” to exchange experiences and positions in countries with total fertility rate below replacement.
Countries’ sexual and reproductive health strategies and their role in demographic diversity were discussed by Álvaro Bermejo (Director General of the International Planned Parenthood Federation), Wang Peian (Vice-President of the China Family Planning Association) or Ana Labandera (Executive Director of the Iniciativas Sanitarias, Uruguay). During the meeting the participants shared reflections on the promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights, on the consequences of ageing and on ways to promote the Cairo Programme of Action on its 25th anniversary.
Within the framework of the seminar, the visit of the China Family Planning Association (CFPA) was a great opportunity for the Planned Parenthood Federation of Spain to exchange information and learn more about the public policies of a country whose demographic policy is undergoing a major transformation in recent years, and a fruitful side event on the challenges and threats against sexual and reproductive rights was held with the participation of CSO from Latin America. The seminar was possible thanks to the collaboration of IPPF.
